Hands-on floor training ensured employees received personalized support while learning the new Warehouse Management System.

Global Employees Supported by the System Rollout

The training solution was designed for broad deployment, enabling reliable adoption across the retailer’s national footprint.

Challenge

Nike, Inc. is one of the world’s largest suppliers of athletic footwear and sports equipment, employing more than 44,000 people worldwide. The company is one of the most recognized and influential brands in the global sports industry.

A critical factor in Nike’s success is its global supply chain. To support continued operational excellence, Nike implemented a new Warehouse Management System across its distribution centers.

Because the implementation would impact many operational processes, the Training and Development team needed a partner who could assist with developing training materials and standard operating procedures using the uPerform rapid learning development platform.

The training initiative needed to establish baseline knowledge, prepare employees for new workflows, and maintain operational performance following system implementation. Ensuring employees felt confident and prepared during the transition was essential.

Solution

TrainingFolks partnered with Nike to support the development of training materials and the delivery of a structured training program designed to help employees quickly become proficient using the new Warehouse Management System.

The program was designed to build foundational knowledge, develop job-specific capabilities, and support continued operational performance after the system was introduced. Because employees trained during this rollout would later help support additional distribution center implementations, the training program needed to prepare them to act as internal subject matter experts.

TrainingFolks designed a blended learning program built around four key delivery methods.

Interactive training sessions provided employees with opportunities to participate in facilitated online practice exercises. Competency-based training focused on the specific tasks employees needed to perform in their roles while also teaching them how to resolve common operational issues.

On-the-floor training was delivered with an instructor-to-student ratio of 1 to 6, allowing employees to gain hands-on experience while working through real operational processes. Learning evaluations were built into the program to measure knowledge retention and ensure employees were comfortable performing their responsibilities.

Because of the tight implementation timeline, two training activities were often conducted simultaneously. While one group attended instructor-led sessions, another group participated in business process simulations on the warehouse floor.

About

Nike implemented a new Warehouse Management System across its distribution operations and required a structured training program to prepare employees for the transition. TrainingFolks partnered with Nike’s Training and Development team to develop standard operating procedures, create training materials using the uPerform rapid learning platform, and deliver a blended learning program. The training initiative helped employees build the knowledge and skills needed to operate the new system while maintaining operational performance during the rollout.

Results

The training program helped Nike successfully introduce the new Warehouse Management System while maintaining operational performance during the transition.

Employees responded positively to the blended learning approach, which allowed them to build skills through both structured instruction and hands-on experience. Super-users gained the confidence and expertise needed to train future employees and support additional system rollouts.

By partnering with TrainingFolks, Nike’s internal teams were able to remain focused on other implementation activities while the training program prepared employees for the new system.

The result was a smoother transition to the new Warehouse Management System and stronger post-implementation performance across operations.
